چکیده

Molecular and structural changes of the P(MAA-g-EG) hydrogels were investigated in their hydrated state using attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. FTIR studies identified the formation of hydrogen-bonded complexes at low pH and polyelectrolyte complexes at high pH. Hydrogen bonding and electrostatic repulsion were not affected by the grafted PEG molecular weight in the hydrogels. Additionally, investigation of the macroscopic swelling properties showed that the presence of the grafted PEG chain in the P(MAA-g-EG) hydrogels contributed to the formation of hydrogen bonds. q 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. Controlled release by using poly (methacrylic acid-g-ethylene glycol ) hydrogels

Graft copolymers of poly (ethylene glycol) with poly (methacrylic acid) were prepared by reaction of poly (ethylene glycol) methacrylate macromonomer with methacrylic acid in the presence of tetraethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a crosslinking agent. The materials were swollen in aqueous solutions with the pH ranging from 1.5 to 12.0. Dynamic swelling studies were performed. The swelling rates...

Complexation graft copolymer networks: swelling properties, calcium binding and proteolytic enzyme inhibition.

Graft copolymer networks of poly(methacrylic acid-g-ethylene glycol) were prepared by free radical solution UV-polymerization of methacrylic acid (MAA) and poly(ethylene glycol) monomethacrylate. Dynamic swelling studies indicated that complexation/decomplexation processes occurred due to hydrogen bonding between the carboxylic groups of the poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) and the ether groups of...

Water, solute and protein diffusion in physiologically responsive hydrogels of poly (methacrylic acid-g-ethylene glycol).

Grafted poly (methacrylic acid-g-ethylene glycol) [P(MAA-g-EG)] copolymers were synthesized and their pH sensitivity was investigated. P(MAA-g-EG) membranes showed pH sensitivity due to complex formation and dissociation. Uncomplexed equilibrium swelling ratios were 40 to 90 times higher than those of the complexed states and varied according to copolymer composition and poly(ethylene glycol) (...

Gastrointestinal transit and mucoadhesive characteristics of complexation hydrogels in rats.

The aim of this study was to investigate the gastrointestinal (GI) transit and mucoadhesive properties of complexation hydrogels, poly(methacrylic acid-grafted-ethylene glycol). The fluorescent labeled complexation hydrogels containing different molar ratios of methacrylic acid/ethylene glycol and different particle diameters were synthesized by free radical solution polymerization. The GI tran...

Analysis of the Complexation/Decomplexation Phenomena in Graft Copolymer Networks

Graft copolymer networks of poly(methacrylic acid-g-ethylene glycol) exhibiting pHdependent swelling behavior due to the formation of interpolymer complexes were prepared by free radical solution polymerization of methacrylic acid and poly(ethylene glycol) monomethacrylate. Dynamic swelling studies established the swelling/deswelling process due to hydrogen bonding. Additionally, the effects of...
